Blocklist-Update.sh is a script that I wrote to manage blocklists from bluetack etc to be used in conjunction with Transmission torrent downloader in Linux/MacOS. The script can be taylored to work with Qbittorrent as well, but the placement of the blocklists means you'd have to redirect the blocklist to go somewhere locally manageable as Transmission uses its own blocklist directory in .config. I believe there are about 10 lists there now. It works well for my needs. It can be ran weekly using crontab in standard user profile. To download: blocklist-update.sh To download the others: Github
Pale Moon, a Firefox fork with its own code, has released a new version not long ago. This new version is the last of the year as Christmas and New Years are fast approaching. Moonchild made it official in the Pale Moon forums on the 28th of November. Pale Moon had several crashes and memory issues fixed. A keyboard shortcut which restarted the browser was also removed. A fix for preventing cookie injections was implemented, a fix to mitigate domain spoofing was added and the problem was in a previous version of Firefox, where certain domains using IDN's would spoof and they had an issue with using certain Latin and Arabic characters and mixing them together, but this spoofing wasn't read in punycode by the browser, now it will be in punycode. The actual bug number is CVE-2017-7832.
Pale Moon also fixed their mixed content blocking feature and improved it. When you go on certain sites that use less secure transport layers, a shield will show up in the address bar before where the padlock should be. This blocks various elements deemed to be insecure, mostly third party and not needed in the current page. A special fix for Linux Load Throbber image was implemented to prevent flickering in Linux systems. Multiple other bug fixes were put in place, including a fix to better check certificates. I've been using this browser release since a few days ago now, it's a pleasant refresh. I really like the responsiveness and the feeling of security it brings. Pale Moon also uses an older, legacy version of Noscript should you wish to revert back to get the old interface. Noscript is at 5.0.6 in Pale Moon 27. You can learn more at the following link: http://www.palemoon.org/ Also, if you're worried about fingerprinting, Pale Moon has a backend Canvas poisoning option that requires you to enable it. It's still experimental, but was planned for a future release to be enabled. The risk of using it is negligible. I have used it many times and it gives you that extra layer of security.
