Blocklist-Update.sh is a script that I wrote to manage blocklists from bluetack etc to be used in conjunction with Transmission torrent downloader in Linux/MacOS. The script can be taylored to work with Qbittorrent as well, but the placement of the blocklists means you'd have to redirect the blocklist to go somewhere locally manageable as Transmission uses its own blocklist directory in .config. I believe there are about 10 lists there now. It works well for my needs. It can be ran weekly using crontab in standard user profile. To download: blocklist-update.sh To download the others: Github
Code signing is a good way for software products to be authenticated
when being installed upon Windows systems. Code signing can mean the
make or break for some applications. When Google-Chrome downloads
something that isn’t signed, it gets flagged. Internet Explorer
tried to do this too. Windows UAC even complains about unsigned
applications. Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Avast, Photoshop, all have CA’s.
It currently looks as if Pale Moon’s prior arrangement has
essentially been terminated. Pale Moon, like other applications,
sought signing from similar vendors as Firefox and the like. But it
appears that they failed to do their part to get re-authenticated and
thus can no longer offer signing to applications. This lead Moonchild
to continue reaching out to various vendors on the open source
sector.
Certum, a company for signing based in Poland, appeared on the
outside to have everything that Moonchild was looking for. After
working with them for what seemed to be forever, Moonchild posted a
warning on Pale Moon’s forums warning any open source developer to
avoid them at all costs. They started ignoring him with certain
issues he was having. According to Moonchild, their system is broken
and even after his posts, they still wanted to try and bridge the
ever-widening gap with the developer again, however, it was to no
avail. This caused Moonchild to decide that few options remained for
him to get signing now, therefore, he is going to be with out it for a
while. He realizes that security software will whine, but at the
moment he is an open source developer without a large company
backing him. The ones with the big bucks win it seems. Firefox and
others still have their own way of getting signed, but smaller
developers do not have the same options. Moonchild has asked that
users try to understand the situation for the moment.
Pale Moon is free and open source software. It is good software, it
is a great alternative to Firefox for anyone looking. Pale Moon is
secure and free of any and all spyware and or malware of any kind.
Moonchild takes great pride in his work and is quickly earning himself a
new name with all the people switching from Firefox lately. I only
hope that Moonchild can find another alternative, but in the
meantime, it is important to know that this is the struggle for many
smaller developers. It’s easy to take things for granted and often
throw hate around because you haven’t gotten your latest features.
It is also harder than it looks for some software to even make it to
the front gate. Many great applications get abandoned by their
creators and die off for limitations stacking against them. Pale Moon
is getting better with every release. I would suspect this
arrangement will not be permanent, however, it may be some time
before Pale Moon gets signed again. In the meantime, it is perfectly
safe to use Pale Moon. Pale Moon is in some ways even ahead of
Mozilla with regards to security. Bounds ahead in privacy. Pale Moon
is at version 27.6.2 at time of writing, but a new version is sure to
be released shortly.
